Alan Wass Interview

You’ve just recently changed your name from Left Hand to Alan Wass and De Havilland- why is this?

I’ve been in Left Hand since I was 14; I started the band at school. There have been a lot of changes in the band since then and now it’s just me and Peter De Havilland, it’s just us two of us so it makes sense.

So you’ve hooked up with De Havilland who used to produce music for Oasis- how is it going?

Yeah it’s going really well. He’s just built a recording studio in his house and we’re working on putting an album together, hopefully it should be finished in a few months.

We hear you spent Christmas with Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones) - how was it sitting round the table eating Christmas dinner with him?

Yeah it was great, normal but surreal. I asked him to pass me the salt and pepper and he did, he’s cool man.

You’ve toured with Pete quite a bit, do you write any music together?

Yeah I’m still touring with Pete, I do write and produce tracks with him too- one of the tracks we co-produced was the ‘What Kate Did Next’ song. But now I’m working on my own stuff and hoping to get my album out this year.

How is it working with Pete Doherty?

A mess! But a nice mess. I like a mess, if everything is tidy I can never find where things are, so a mess is a good thing.

What’s your favourite song of all time?

Mother of Pearl (Roxy Music).

Who would you most like to collaborate with next?

David Bowie.

What tunes are your top tunes of the moment?

Whiskey and Women (Johnny Lee Hooker), I’m Dead (Muddy Waters), and Mother of Pearl (Roxy Music).

Why do you think Reprezent 87.7FM is such a great project?

It is a really great project. There’s a lot of pain running through the city, and this is really helping kids, giving them an opportunity of a life time and setting them up for life. Rockin’.

What advice for success would you give everyone at Reprezent 87.7FM?

Stay peaceful, get educated, stay talented and be strong.
